Melismas - Postcard I

  • We are offering this postcard designed by Margarita Milova with a photo taken by Diana Duta in the church of St. Nicholas (Myra, 520 AD) during her experience in the “Melismas” residency. On the back side there is qr-code through which you can listen and download a 31-minute piece by Sajjra Xhrs Galarreta based on raw field recordings related to this project. Raw and one-take recordings were used in this piece without add studio effects. The acoustic effects are from the lanscape.

    "Melismas (voices modulated by Anatolian landscapes)" is a residency programme & sound-walks series to listen at a distance to the Azan* singing and how its sound is radically modulated by the rural landscape of Demre (Turkey). This initiative is based on the ideas than Galarreta applied when making a radio piece broadcasted by Q-O2/Oscillation Festival – Tuned Circuits 2021 (Belgium), by the online radio stations Kool Kast (France), by Ma3azef – Badlcukwind show – (Tunisia) and lastly by Concertzender (The Netherlands).

    The residency also involve live listening of the soundscape through electromagnetic fields, underwater sounds and other vibratory phenomena. It is not required to have any skill in sound, arts or any specific discipline to join this residency.
